During the Academic Year, Whig Hall shall be managed by the Secretary of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society, in consultation with ODUS and in accordance with §VII.C.4 of the Constitution of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society and the 1941 Contract between the Trustees of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society and the Trustees of Princeton University

Rule 1: Whig Hall Reservation Policy for Whig-Clio
- Whig-Clio and Whig-Clio subsidiaries shall receive preference when reserving Whig Hall.
- In order to make a reservation, the Host of an Event (for Whig-Clio) or the Head of a Subsidiary (for Whig-Clio subsidiaries) should reach out to the Whig-Clio Secretary with the following information:
- Event Date/Time
- Event Title
- Rooms Requested
- In the event of a conflict between two or more branches and/or subsidiaries of Whig-Clio, conflicts shall be decided based on the following criteria:
- Major Whig-Clio events, including but not limited to speaker events and traditional social events (Semi-Formals, Senior Roast) shall receive first preference
- Subsidiary practices shall receive second preference
- All other events shall receive last preference
- In the event of two or more events belonging to the same category, discretion shall be at the Whig-Clio Secretary
Rule 2: Whig Hall Reservation Policy for ODUS and the Office of the President
- ODUS and the Office of the President are permitted to host events in Whig Hall
- Between 8:00-16:30 on weekdays, ODUS and the Office of the President shall receive first preference when reserving Whig Hall.
- ODUS and the Office of the President shall receive less preference than Whig-Clio but more preference than non-subsidiary, ODUS-recognized student organizations for all other times.
- In order to make a reservation, ODUS and the Office of the President must submit the following information to both the Whig-Clio Program Coordinator and the Whig-Clio Secretary:
- Event Date/Time
- Event Title
- Rooms Requested
Rule 3: Whig Hall Reservation Policy for Non-subsidiary, ODUS-recognized student organizations
- Non-subsidiary, ODUS-recognized student organizations are permitted to host events in Whig Hall, but shall only have their reservations confirmed one week prior to the event. Whig-Clio is permitted to preempt any non-subsidiary reservations so long as they preempt them more than one week prior to the event.
- Non-subsidiary, ODUS-recognized student organizations must submit the following information to the Whig-Clio Secretary to be considered for a reservation:
- Name of Group
- Chartstring
- College Democrats and College Republicans are exempt from this requirement
- Event Date/Time
- Event Title
- Rooms Requested
- The Senate Chamber (2nd floor), Oakes Lounge (1st floor), and James Madison Room (3rd floor) are available for all student organizations. Special permission is required for Stokes Lounge (Basement floor) – see Whig Hall Basement Access Policy
- Will the event have food and/or drinks
- Only snacks and beverages are permitted for non-subsidiary, ODUS-recognized student organizations
- If approved, non-subsidiary, ODUS-recognized student organizations must also perform the following actions:
- Be responsible for set-up and clean-up
- Register on CLEVER
- Pay a reservation fee
- College Democrats and College Republicans are exempt from this requirement
- Any event co-sponsored by Whig-Clio, Whig, Clio, or a Whig-Clio subsidiary is exempt from this requirement

- Non-subsidiary, ODUS-recognized student organizations that do not clean up after events, destroy Whig-Clio property, or act in any other way that violates the physical space will be indefinitely banned from reserving any rooms in Whig Hall and may have members of their organization be subject to a prox ban for Whig Hall.
- A ban can be appealed to the Governing Council of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society. If an organization seeks to appeal a ban, they must provide at least three days’ notice before a meeting of the Governing Council and prepare a speech no more than three minutes. At the meeting, the representative of the organization shall deliver a three minute speech, followed by a three minute speech given by the Whig-Clio Secretary. The vote to overturn a ban shall include all Voting Members of the Governing Council except the Secretary, must be unanimous, must be conducted under a Secret Ballot, and must be presided over by a member of the Constitutional Compliance Committee of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society.
Rule 4: Whig Hall Reservation Policy for Academic Departments
- Academic Departments are permitted to host events in Whig Hall, but shall only have their reservations confirmed one week prior to the event. Whig-Clio is permitted to preempt any Academic Department reservations so long as they preempt them more than one week prior to the event.
- Academic Departments must submit the following information to both the Whig-Clio Program Coordinator and the Whig-Clio Secretary to be considered for a reservation:
- Name of Group
- Event Date/Time
- Event Title
- Rooms Requested
- The Senate Chamber (2nd floor) and Oakes Lounge (1st floor) are available for all Academic Departments. Special permission is required for Stokes Lounge (Basement floor) – see Whig Hall Stokes Lounge Access Policy

Rule 5: Whig Hall Access Policy
- Whig Hall is owned jointly by the American Whig-Cliosophic Society and Princeton University. Whig Hall is classified as a classroom building by Princeton University and is subject to all regulations pertaining to classroom buildings. Specifically, Whig Hall is unlocked and open to all individuals regardless of affiliation between 7:00-19:59 on weekdays. Whig Hall is open to individuals with a Princeton University prox that isn’t subject to a prox ban on 20:00-23:59 on weekdays and 7:00-23:59 on weekends.
- Individuals who destroy Whig-Clio property or act in any other way that violates the physical space will be indefinitely banned from reserving any rooms in Whig Hall and may be subject to a prox ban, at the discretion of the Whig-Clio Secretary.
- A ban can be appealed to the Governing Council of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society. If an individual seeks to appeal a ban, they must provide at least three days’ notice before a meeting of the Governing Council and prepare a speech no more than three minutes. Rule 6: Whig Hall Basement Access Policy
- Whig Hall’s Basement, which consists of Stokes Lounge and the Basement Offices, is only accessible to Whig-Clio members, Facilities, and University Officials. In order for a student to receive access, the student must be a Whig-Clio member and must request access from the Whig-Clio Secretary. The individual may be subject to an interview, and the decision over basement access is left to the discretion of the Whig-Clio Secretary.
Rule 7: Whig Hall Abandoned Property Policy
- Any personal property left in Whig Hall for a period exceeding 24 hours is considered abandoned property and becomes property of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society. Such property becomes the responsibility of the Whig-Clio Secretary.
- Any individual seeking to claim property after the 24 hour period must submit a written request to the Whig-Clio Secretary. The Whig-Clio Secretary shall have discretion in deciding whether to return the property. A refusal to return the property can be appealed to the Governing Council. If an individual seeks to appeal a refusal, they must provide at least three days’ notice before a meeting of the Governing Council and prepare a speech no more than three minutes. At the meeting, the individual shall deliver a three minute speech, followed by a three minute speech given by the Whig-Clio Secretary. The vote to return property shall include all Voting Members of the Governing Council except the Secretary, must be unanimous, must be conducted under a Secret Ballot, and must be presided over by a member of the Constitutional Compliance Committee of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society.
Rule 8: Whig Hall Alcohol Policy
- Alcoholic beverages are prohibited from Whig Hall during the Academic Year, with the following exceptions:
- If the event is hosted by Whig-Clio or a non-subsidiary, student organization, special approval from ODUS is required and the following rules apply:
- No persons under the age of 21 are permitted to attend the event
- Public Safety officers must be present
- Alcoholic beverages can only be served by the Princeton Bartending Agency
- If the event is hosted by ODUS, the Office of the President , or an Academic Department, the following rules apply:
- No persons under the age of 21 are permitted to attend the event
- Alcoholic beverages can only be served by the Princeton Bartending Agency
- If the event is hosted by Whig-Clio or a non-subsidiary, student organization, special approval from ODUS is required and the following rules apply:
Rule 9: Whig Hall Prohibited Substance Policy
- All drugs classified by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency as a controlled substance are prohibited from Whig Hall, with no exceptions.
- Any individual in possession of a controlled substance in Whig Hall will be subject to disciplinary action, arrest, and prosecution
- Tobacco and all Nicotine-containing substances are prohibited from Whig Hall, with no exceptions.
- Any individual in possession of a controlled substance in Whig Hall will be subject to disciplinary action, arrest, and prosecution
